A Water District Project Aimed At Increasing Sewer Capacities For Development within the City of Balch Springs. Scope - Thurn the old 18" gravity flow sewer outfall main into a pressure pipe and increase the outflow capability from 2 1/2 million gallons per day to 5 1/2 million gallons per day. How? By putting a new poly pipe inside the old pipe and connecting to the new pumping station being constructed on Ravenview Road.

The Contractor sets up a temporary pumping station to divert sewage flow around the stretches of the old main they are inserting new pipe into. The big machine is a generator to provide power for the pumps.

Then the 4 1/2 mile by-pass line is snaked along the old main easement.
District employees call it the "Long Black Snake."
Then the old line is dug up and a section removed making a place to begin the insertion of the new line. You can see the by-pass line in ther background.
And the new line is s - l - o - w - l - y pulled into the old main.
