HICKORY CREEK PUMPING STATION
(STILL UNDER CONSTRUCTION)
Cost - $1,200,000.00
Sewer has been a problem in District #6 more years than we would all like to admit. This project is designed at expanding the District's sewer out flow capacity to handle 100% of the flow even if every vacant lot in the City is developed. That means it is designed to handle the maximum flow that could possibly happen in the limits of the City of Balch Springs. Over 10 million gallons per day!
| The beginning is an ugly, debris littered field..
And then the engineers and contractors roll up their sleeves
and a few months later you have a hole in the ground.
Then the hole gets bigger . . .
And, bigger . . .
Until you have ONE REALLY DEEP HOLE IN THE GROUND!
Inspector Joe Bounds thinks it time to start worrying.
This hole is 3 stories deep!
The construction begins by putting reinforcement in the bottom.
Then pouring in the concrete floor.
Then the walls are constructed.
Higher each day.
Until the top is in place and the protective grates put in.
Just 1 of the 3 proposed giant new pumps can handle millions of gallons
of sewage daily (Engineer Bart Hubbard stands beside 1 of the 2 pumps installed to indicate their size).
After the pumping pit is complete the control building is started.
Board Member Karen Gray and Inspector Joe Bounds comparing notes
on the progress.
The Control building gets more brick.
The concrete foundation for the emergency generator is poured.
State of the Art metering device is installed and ready for action.
Finally the pump building looks like a building.
NOW YOU SEE IT! - The World's largest generator plant! Designed
to keep the pumping station in full operation during any power interruption.
The parking area and driveway are started.
Inspector Mike Washington, stands in the doorway of the titan
generator.
Inspector, Glen Cottingham, discusses the construction with
Director of Utilities, Dave Ramon, and Wastewater Foreman, Willard Rollison.
Finishing touches are being made on the control building.
Even the Director of Finance, Debra Turner checks out this major
project.
Inspection after inspection after inspection. This job must be done right.
Start up date is projected for sometime in June. |
